I don't know how I've managed to miss this one, but it's new to me. Here's an example, from The O'Reilly Factor:
"O'REILLY: ... But the bigger picture is that Lynne Cheney asserts that CNN, in its election coverage, Juan, is in the tank for the Democrats. You buying that?"
Clearly it means 'in bed with', or at least I assume so. It's a puzzling image on the face of it. Any info as to date and origin?
