Posts: 0 Mar 31 02 10:12 AM More My Recent Posts	Tags : None After travelling in Texas, I kept hearing the phrase Okie Dokie. I kept asking what an Okie Dokie was and everyone just said it meant O.K. I believe an Okie Dokie is a pastry. What is the origin. Tony

I've also heard "okie dokie penny-a-lokie", which probably has the same meaning, the second bit being no more than rhyming nonsense (or is it??) Posts: 8928 Mar 31 02 1:26 PM Banned User More My Recent Posts	I used to say "okie dokie", but now cannot shake off Flanders' (Simpsons) "okely dokely (sp?)". I haven't seen the show in 8 or 9 years now, but I'm still using this. I fear that I shall never get back on the "okie dokie" standard.

Posts: 9773 Mar 31 02 2:43 PM More My Recent Posts	I've never heard of "okie dokie" as a pastry; it's just an elaboration of "OK". While I couldn't swear that there's not a coffee shop somewhere (esp. in Okalahoma) that hasn't used it as a name for their house special donut or what have you, that's not the original, nor a generally used, sense of the term.

Posts: 425 Mar 31 02 9:05 PM More My Recent Posts	If you type "okie dokie bar" into Google, including the " ", you get 4 hits of school menus in Kentucky. I think I had some using cookie, also. But I don't feel like going back and looking. So it must be a real food item. As for the usually understood sense of "okey-dokey" in at least the US, it seems to have appeared around the early 1930's and was used in print by authors as varied as Clifford Odets, William Faulkner, Langston Hughes, and Robert Sherwood. All in the 1932-35 period. So one can say it was certainly a "buzz" word at that time. "Okie" was first in print meaning a native of Oklahoma in 1918. It is tempting to think of some vague connection of the Okies of the 1918 quote, and the migration to California during the depression, and the sudden literary use of the phrase in 1932-35, even though it was used to mean "O. K." All info used was from Lighter.

Having never been anywhere near Oklahoma, Okinawa is the sole meaning to me now (unless in print, in which case that "e" distinguishes), but I wonder how an Okie native deals with this?
