A person who employs is an employer; the one employed is the employee.
A person who lets an apartment is the lessor; the one to whom the apartment is let is the lessee.
In all such verbs, the person performing the action has the -er, -or ending. While the person on whom the action is being performed has the -ee ending.
So why is someone who escapes an escapee?
